Jai Kali ma

I perform havan for Kali ma (represents feminine power) on Tuesdays an Fridays at home. A small earthen pot is used for the purpose. I line the bottom of the pot with small pieces of wood from mango tree and put one lit camphor in between the wood pieces. It lights up the woods and then I do the offerings to the fire.

From 14th to 21st of June 2013, I was away to a place where internet was not available. On coming back, I did my havan on 23rd, Tuesday. It took me three camphor pieces to light up the fire. I was confused. Why is the Goddess playing hard to please? Any way, the fire lit up with the three camphor pieces, and after my offerings, there was a huge crackling flame. I was glad with the end result.

On the same night we had a gathering of friends and one of them was telling about the removal of Dhari devi’s idol from her temple in Uttarakhand hours before the cloudburst on 16th June. A manifestation of Goddess Kali, Dhari Devi is guardian deity of Uttarakhand, and is  revered as the protector of the Char Dhams.

That explained the problem I had in getting the fire lit for the havan.
